Child dies after poisoned by dad

A five-year-old Saudi girl died in hospital after she was poisoned by her drunk father, a few days after the death of her younger brother because of the poison, a newspaper reported on Sunday.

Doctors had raced against time to save the girl who had spent five days in the intensive care unit before she died, 'Alwatan' said, quoting health department director in the eastern province of Ihsa. Her four-year-old brother died of poison on the same day he was admitted to hospital five days ago, the paper said.

In its report early this week, the paper said police summoned the 40-year-old father, also a drug addict, after receiving a medical report that the two children were poisoned. “The father has now confessed to adding poison to his children’s food under the influence of alcohol,” it said.
