Child rapist gets six years, 1,600 lashes

A Saudi appeal court sentenced a local school teacher for six years n prison and ordered him lashed 1,600 times for raping two teen age girls, a newspaper in the Gulf Kingdom reported on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old man was earlier sentenced by a criminal court to four years in jail and 100 lashes but the prosecution appealed, saying the verdict was too lenient for such a crime.

The unnamed teacher from the central province of Qatif was released on bail two years ago after he raped a 14-year-old girl. A day before standing trial, he raped another 12-year-old girl.
