Child rebuked by step-mum ends life

A 13-year-old Egyptian girl committed a suicide by hanging herself after she was upset by her step mother’s mistreatment of her.

Police in the capital Cairo said the girl tied a rope round her neck, climbed up a tree near her house and jumped down.

The Arabic language daily 'Al Ahram' quoted a police spokesman as saying the girl committed a suicide because her father’s wife was mistreating her.

“We were told that the woman was mistreating the girl and had kept telling her to stop watching the cartoon TV channel,” he said.
