A pigeon seeking to quench its thirst in the scorching summer heat in Saudi Arabia flew straight into the Grand Mosque in Makkah and perched on the balcony as thousands of Muslims performed Umra (mini pilgrimage).

The pigeon chose that place after it apparently saw a cleaner carrying a bucket of water. It looked at him and he quickly understood.

A stunning picture published in the Saudi Arabic language daily Sharq showed the cleaner filled a cup with water and took it to the pigeon, which did not flinch. Instead, it stretched its head and started to gulp the offered water.

The picture showed a large crowd of pilgrims underneath as the bearded cleaner continued to quench the bird’s thirst.

Sharq did not elaborate on the picture apart from writing a caption saying: "A cleaner giving water to a thirsty pigeon at the Holy Grand Mosque.”
