Two Gulf-based universities have been featured in the top 400 club in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2013-14.
Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulaziz University and King Saud University both feature in the coveted rankings this year in the 351-400 band.

King Saud University has managed to break into the rankings for the first time this year even though King Abdulaziz University has actually dropped in its rankings from the 301-350 band in last year’s rankings to the 351-400 band this year.

According to The Times University Rankings, the top five universities in Asia are the University of Tokyo (Japan), National University of Singapore, the University of Hong Kong, Seoul National University (S. Korea) and Peking University (China).

Among Arab and other Asian universities, a ranking published earlier this year puts King Abdulaziz University as the top Arab university in the world (at No. 49 in the Asia University Rankings), followed by Saudi Arabia’s King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals and King Saud University at No. 62 and No. 77, respectively on that list, followed by the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) at No. 86 on the list, followed by the American University of Beirut at No. 87.

The Times University Rankings evaluate academic institutions based on their core missions and visions of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. The rankings are based on 13 performance indicators intended to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons.
