Court orders man to divorce for beating wife

A Saudi court ordered a local man to divorce his wife after he was found guilty of beating her up and taking her face veil off in a public place.

The judge at the court in the Western Red Sea port of Jeddah heard many witnesses who said the man beat his wife at a busy shopping mall, stripped her face off and chased her as she tried to run away from him.

The man admitted that he assaulted his wife while she was at the mall with their little daughter following marital rifts over the past weeks.

Sada newspaper said the judge also ordered the husband to pay SR500 (Dh5000 monthly alimony to his daughter.
