Kuwaiti authorities have busted a vice ring and arrested most of its members following the discovery of the body of a dead Asian housemaid, the Kuwaiti Arabic language daily Alanba reported on Thursday.

A man who stumbled across a large metal box dumped near an uninhabited house told police after he suspected the presence of that box for a long time.

Police broke open the box and found the body of an Asian woman, who was later identified by her Kuwaiti employer. He told the police that the maid ran away in May 2009 and he was unable to trace her.

Police detectives later arrested two Asian men who were found to have sold the maid to another Asian for KD100. She was then taken to an apartment run by an Asian woman and forced into prostitution, the paper said.

On the next day, the maid tried to escape through the window but fell down and suffered injuries prompting those defendants to move her to the house of another Asian woman for treatment.

“But she died in that house on May 20 last year…they then stuffed her body into that box and dumped it in Jaleeb Al Shoyoukh area.”

The paper said the criminal court sentenced the first defendant to seven years in jail and the other defendants to three years in prison, to be followed by deportation. The fifth defendant was also sentenced in absence.
