Visitors to Jordan must take extra care when they see a pretty girl as they could lose their tongue if they harass her, even verbally.

A local man found guilty by a Bedouin tribal panel of verbally harassing a girl in the Southern Jordanian town of Aqaba was ordered to have his tongue cut off.

The order was about to be carried out before the man’s family managed to raise 40,000 dinars (Dh210,000) and paid it to the victim at the last minute.

Newspapers in Jordan said the panel accepted the 'diya' and pardoned the man but seized his car and awarded it to the girl.
