A Kuwait court sentenced a man to death and issued the same verdict against two accomplices in absentia after they were convicted of smuggling nearly 183 kg of drugs into the oil-rich Gulf emirate, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Kuwait’s coast guard had chased one man aboard a dhow (Arabian wooden boat) that came from a neigbhbouring country and seized the hashish as it anchored near Miskan island off Kuwait, Alwatan Arabic language daily said.

The unnamed man confessed to drug smuggling and told police the stuff belongs to two other men in Kuwait, it said.

The court sentenced him to death and delivered capital punishment against the other two in their absence. It said the convicts can appeal within a month.
