The Egyptian Cabinet decided during an emergency meeting last night, headed by President Dr Mohamed Morsi, to form a national committee comprising official and popular local figures and experts to study the scale of Ethiopia's Renaissance Dam project on the Blue Nile.

The committee will discuss what could be the consequences of this dam and its effects on Egypt.

According to the Middle East News Agency, the Cabinet decided to adopt the plan presented by Mohammed Kamel Amr, Egyptian Foreign Minister, to deal with the situation while maintaining Egyptian interests and relations with concerned countries.

A spokesman for the Egyptian presidency said in a statement after the meeting that President Dr Mohamed Morsi pointed out the strategic considerations that govern his country's position on the dam.

He stressed that Egypt will not ignore the rights of the nation and will not give up a drop of the Nile waters.
