A Saudi airline pilot made an emergency landing in the Gulf kingdom after receiving a black box warning signal, causing panic among the passengers.

The Saudia aircraft was flying from Jordan’s capital Amman to the Western Saudi Red Sea port of Jeddah when the captain was alerted by the black box.

“It was a moment of panic for me and all the other passengers,” said Abdul Aziz Qassim, a Saudi journalist who was aboard the flight on Saturday.

He told ‘Sada’ newspaper that the passengers were told by the cabin crew the captain was making an emergency landing in the northwestern Saudi town of Tabuk after receiving an urgent warning signal from the plane’s black box.

“Many ambulances and civil defence units were waiting for the plane on the runway when it landed,” Qassim said.
