Saudi Arabia’s Islamic authorities have started providing instant translation in English and Urdu languages to Friday’s sermons at the Grand Mosque, the world’s largest Islamic mosque and one of the most sacred Muslim places.
Newspapers said the project was launched on Friday on a trial basis in parts of the massive Mosque before it is extended to the remaining places in the next weeks.
Thousands of head-sets were distributed to non-Arab Muslims during Friday’s open-air prayers at the mosque in the western Saudi town of Makkah, they said.
“Officials said that after they verify the success of this experiment, they will apply it in the Prophet Mosque in Madinah,” Sabq daily said.
