Two Saudi falconers tricked a rare eagle into a pigeon snare and captured it alive before selling it for SR58,000 (Dh57,500) to a falcon fan in the Gulf Kingdom.

Mathal Al Ayesh and Mahdi Al Gunaidi were on a hunting trip near the northern Saudi town of Rafha when they spotted the falcon in the air.

“They put a pigeon inside a small net and made it fly but they kept the net tied to a rope they were holding,” said Badr Al Shammari, Al Ayesh’s son.

“When the falcon saw the pigeon, it made a quick swoop and captured the pigeon..…but it was caught in the net and captured by my father alive.”

He told Sabq newspaper the bird was sold on the same day for SR58,000 to a falcon fan in the nearby Hafr Al Batin town.
