A Saudi family had decided to sue a shopping mall after its four-year-old baby was killed when he plunged into the elevator shaft through an unguarded opening, a local newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Yousuf Ahmed Al Saeed was found by police in the underground elevator pit at the mall in the eastern port of Dammam this week.

His uncle, Abdul Rahman Al Saeed, said they would take legal measures against the mall after mourning, 'Shams' Arabic language daily reported.

“We will sue that mall…we are surprised that no one from the mall management came to offer condolences as if they are not meant by the child’s death,” he said.

“This incident reveals a serious negligence and carelessness by the mall, which is crowded most of the time…it was clear that it has a small number of security men and does not have enough cameras to tract missing children.”
