A journalist in a mass circulation newspaper in Saudi Arabia suffered from serious injuries in the hand after she was attacked by three lions at a circus in the Gulf Kingdom, newspapers reported on Sunday.

Asmahan Al Ghamdi, a reporter at Alriyadh Arabic language daily was covering the circus north of Riyadh when the lions broke loose from their trainer and jumped on her, they said.

The reporter tried to escape by jumping off the fence but was thrown down by one lion while another one tried to bite her hand off.

“She was saved in the last minute by the lions’ trainer, who succeeded in getting them off her…she suffered from a serious hand injury and was taken to hospital in Riyadh for treatment,” Sabq Arabic language daily said.

Quoted by Okaz daily, her father said his daughter had left hospital but would not return to work for a few days. “The newspaper gave her a rest for a few days until she fully recovers,” he said.
