Saudi Arabia’s religious police arrested several Filipinos during a raid on their house after a tip off that they were involved in manufacturing home-made liquor and selling to local residents, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice seized liquor production equipment and buckets full of Arak and other alcoholic drinks during the raid on the house in Riyadh, Ajel Arabic language daily said.

“Those arrested were accused of producing liquor at their house and selling it to local residents, mainly teenagers,” it said without saying how many Filipinos were seized during the raid.

Alcohol is strictly banned in Saudi Arabia, one of the most conservative Moslem nations, with a population of 27 million, including seven million expatriates.
