Food squandering is insane: Saudi scholar

A senior Saudi Islamic scholar has criticized squandering of food at feasts and other occasions, saying this is insane behavior.

Sheikh Abdullah Al Mutlaq, an adviser at the Royal Court and member of the Gulf Kingdom’s 7-man Supreme Scholars Committee, said sending the surplus food to the poor does not resolve the problem.

“Most of the poor people do not want food leftovers…those who spend so much on food should give the poor money instead of leftovers,” he said, quoted by local newspapers.

“The phenomenon of squandering food needs to be eliminated because this is insane an abuse to God’s boon.”
