Generous incentives for Saudi tribal chiefs

Saudi Arabia is planning to lavish generous incentives to its tribal leaders, including a five-year car allowance of SR150,000 (Dh148,000).

The Shura council, the Gulf Kingdom’s appointed parliament, will shortly debate the incentive system for tribal leaders to encourage them to get closer to each other.

The proposed system involves the payment of SR8,000 (Dh7,900) a month to the leader of a large tribe that includes many clans plus a car allowance of SR150,000 every five months, according to Saudi newspapers.

The chief of a smaller tribe will get SR6,000 (Dh5,950) a month and a car allowance of SR100,000 (Dh99,000) every five years, they said.
