Girl takes to street to escape family torture

A Saudi teenage girl took the street and stopped cars to ask for a lift to escape her family who she said are torturing her.

In a report from the western town of Taif on Wednesday, Kabar newspaper said a driver and his mother stopped for the 18-year-old girl and accepted to drive her away.

The man stopped on his way to Makkah and convinced the girl to report her case to the police, the paper said.

“She was handed to the police who opened an investigation into the girl’s case…she told them that she does not want to go back home because her family has subjected her to torture and extreme violence,” the paper said.

“Police then decided to keep the girl and summon her family to investigate her claims.”
