An Indian worker who was stranded in Saudi Arabia for last 13 years has at last been repatriated to his homeland.

According to 'Arab News', 51-year-old N Subramaniam from Tamil Nadu arrived in Jeddah in 198 on a 'free visa', where he was allowed to do any job as long as he paid a commission to the sponsor who brought him to the kingdom.

However, after the first two years he could not locate his sponsor and had no idea whom to turn to for help. In the meantime, he also lost touch with his family back home who thought he might have died in the kingdom.

He has three kids but poverty forced his son to drop out of school to work as a labourer.

Subramaniam fell ill and his condition was brought to the notice of the Indian Consulate.

SD Moorthy, Consul at the Indian Consulate in Jeddah, said he was suffering from arthritis and other medical complications such as diabetes and hypertension. He was given the requisite medical treatment by the consulate.

As his health condition improved, the consulate took up the case with the Saudi authorities for his immediate deportation on humanitarian grounds.
