Kuwait daily faces closure

Kuwaiti authorities have decided to shut down a key local Arabic language newspaper, prompting the company to go to court to reverse the decision.

The mass circulation 'Al Watan' said it had filed a law suit against a decision by the minister of trade Abdul Mohsen Al Midej to abolish the license of the Dar Al Watan company which issues the paper and other publications in the oil-rich Gulf emirate.

The paper said an administrative court would hear the cause on Wednesday but it did not mention why the minister had issued such a decision.
