Kuwait’s population grew by about 2.6 per cent to 3.965 million at the end of 2013 and Asians remained a majority, accounting for more than a third of the total.

Official data showed Kuwaitis were a minority in their own country, totaling around 1.242 million at the end of 2013, accounting for nearly 31.3 per cent.

Asians were estimated at 1.499 million, nearly 37 per cent of the total population, while non-Kuwaiti Arabs stood at about 1.106 million, accounting for 27.9 per cent.

The figures by Kuwait’s general information authority, published in Al Watan newspaper, showed Kuwaiti females slightly outnumbered males as they accounted for 50.08 per cent of the native population.

Kuwait, a key OPEC oil producer, has the third largest population in the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) after Saudi Arabia, with nearly 30 million, and the UAE, with a population of around 8.2 million.
