Man divorces wife by SMS after 25 years

A Saudi husband divorced his wife by sending a message to her mobile phone although they have been married for 25 years and have six children.

The unidentified man told court in the southern province of Jazan that he sent the SMS in a fit of anger and wanted his wife to return to him.

But the judge decided to separate the couple after learning that it was the third time that the husband divorced his wife through their marriage life.

“The judge told him he cannot have his wife back because it was the third divorce. The judge made clear that under Islamic law, the woman must marry another man and get a divorce after a specific period of time before she is allowed to return to her ex-husband,” the Arabic language daily Alsaudeh said.
