A Saudi man donated a kidney to an ill local girl after she appealed for help on her Twitter page, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

Nayef Al Shammari said he decided to donate his kidney to end the suffering of the girl, who lives in the Northern border town of Rafha, hundreds of kilometers from his residence in the capital Riyadh.

Okaz Arabic language newspaper said medical tests showed that Shammari was eligible to donate the kidney and that the transplant operation was performed successfully at the King Faisal Hospital in Riyadh.

“This man has set an example in nobility and sacrifice by donating part of his body for a person he does not know,” the paper said.
