Man jailed five years for raping child

A Saudi court sentenced a Filipino man to five years in prison for raping a 10-year-old Filipina girl several times although the prosecution had demanded the death sentence, a newspaper reported on Sunday.

The court in the western Red Sea port of Jeddah also ordered the rapist, identified as Armando, lashed 500 times with the whip after tests showed he had raped his little neighbour at his apartment, Alsaudi Arabic language daily said.

The man had first lured the girl to his apartment by inviting her to watch her favourite cartoon film. He then started to beat her up and threaten her if she refuses his request to come to his home.Her mother Alisa, also a Filipina, said Armando, had forced her daughter into his flat and raped her while she and her husband were away for work.“What he had done has a very bad psychological impact on my daughter…sometimes she jumps out of bed at night and says she saw Armando in her dream trying to kill her…she is frightened to go to bed ever night.”
