Man stabs mother in front of police

A Kuwaiti man apparently suffering from mental illness stabbed his mother before the eyes of besieging police men trying to persuade him to let her go, the Arabic language daily Alqabas reported on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old man, who was not named, took his mother hostage at their house in Jaleeb Shoyoukh in Kuwait City and then threatened to throw himself from the roof unless the police leave the area, it said.

“They refused and tried to persuade him to surrender…..he refused and stabbed his mother many times…she was taken to hospital for treatment,” it said.

The paper said the man told police that he had done so because of persistent disputes with his family. It quoted police sources as saying the man had been treated at a psychiatry hospital in the emirate.
