More than 32 per cent of Saudis are suffering from diabetes because of lack of exercise and bad eating habits, according to press reports.

Diabetes is more widespread among men than women in the world’s dominant oil power as they are more vulnerable to the disease, Kabar newspaper said, citing a study presented at a recent medical conference in the western Saudi Red Sea port of Jeddah.

“The study attributed the high diabetes rate in the Saudi Arabia to lack of exercise, congenital factors and fast food meals,” it said.

Saudis are estimated at around 20 million, nearly two thirds of the Gulf Kingdom’s total population of 27.1 million.
