Saudi bees under attack by Egyptian bees

Saudi farmers are complaining that their native bees are producing less honey and fleeing their hives this season, causing them big losses. The reason is not man or nature but an alien invasion—Egyptian bees.

The farmers in the southern province of Baha near the border with Yemen say that most of the Saudi native bees are just “evacuating” their hives and flying away in face of a “massive” invasion by the “aggressive” Egyptian bees, Sabq daily said.

“The farmers have appealed for the Ministry of Agriculture to find a solution to the problem by facing this alien invasion,” the paper said.

“The farmers said this problem has inflicted heavy losses on them as Egyptian bees are attacking local bees, take their honey and expel them from their hives.”

Sabq said Egyptian bees are sold in the local market and their life is much shorter than that of native bees, not exceeding one month.
