Saudi hospital sued over post-delivery death

A Sudanese expatriate in Saudi Arabia is suing a hospital in Riyadh over the death of his sister following delivery, blaming a medical error by the doctor for her demise, a local newspaper reported on Friday.

Sharaf Al Sadeq said his sister suffered from a severe bleeding after delivery, prompting the female gynecologist to perform an urgent surgery with the help of a resident consultant to remove her womb, the paper reported.

The operation resulted in serious complications and the woman had to be moved into the intensive care unit, where she died four days later.

The baby boy was in a good condition but he and four other brothers and sisters have been orphaned, the paper quoted Sadeq as saying.

“I am suing the hospital not for mere escalation but to ensure it will not commit more medical errors in the future,” he said.
