Saudi kills suspected 'spy' falcon

A Saudi man shot a falcon over his small town in the Gulf Kingdom after suspecting it was spying on his country, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Khazaal Al Shammari said he found bracelets tagged to the bird’s legs and one of them carried the name of a Belarus hotel.

He told Sada newspaper that he was on a hunting trip outside his town of Aweqila near the Iraqi border when he spotted the tagged bird.

“I saw the bracelets in its legs and I thought it was coming to spy on my country. I decided to kill it in any way,” he said.

Shammari said he is willing to hand the bracelets to authorities so they will decipher them and identify the bird’s origin.
