Saudi religious police to set up human rights unit

Saudi Arabia’s religious police authority has decided to set up a human rights unit to look after those arrested by its members in various cases.

The new unit will be run only by ‘qualified’ staff to guarantee the rights of those arrested and ensure justice, said Sheikh Abdul Lateef Al Shaikh, chairman of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.

“The new unit will attend to the problems facing those arrested by the Commission, listen to their complaints and ensure justice for them,” he told ‘Sabq’ newspaper.
