A Saudi school had to evacuate its students after a massive bee swarm invaded classes and caused havoc inside the building, a local daily said on Tuesday.

The situation went out of control after a student tried to catch the invaders’ queen, causing the bees to attack some pupils at the school in the central town of Madina, Masdar online Arabic language daily said.

“The management then decided to evacuate the school and call authorities for help,” the paper said. “The problem ended after specialists from the Ministry of Agriculture trapped the bees into an artificial hive.”

The paper quoted Salim Al Radadi, in charge of honey production at the Ministry, as saying the invading wasps were of local breed and “producers of high quality honey.” He said the bees had left their habitat apparently because of the spread of insecticides by farmers in that area.
