Scholar run over trying to clear road of stone

A Saudi scholar was killed when he was run over by a car on a motorway in Saudi Arabia as he tried to pick up a stone in the middle of the road.

Hamza Al Damasi was his friend heading for the central town of Unaizah when he saw the rock on the road and asked him to stop the car.

His friend who was driving at first refused but the Sheikh insisted on getting out of the car and picking up the rock, newspapers said.

As he reached the rock and tried to pick it up, a passing car knocked him over and killed him instantly, they said.
