Shock for Saudi bride: Flowers with 'live' locusts

A  Saudi groom had apparently thought it was a pleasant surprise when he gifted his bride a flower bouquet which had swarms of live locusts hidden inside.

But his joke had a devastating effect when the scared wife decided to leave him.

The unnamed woman was jolted out of bed at dawn on her first wedding day by a buzzing sound as her husband has just gone out to the nearby mosque for prayers in the northwestern Saudi town of Hail.

“She found that the sound came from the flower bouquet. When she opened it, a large number of locusts flew out and swarmed her bed room,” Ain Hail daily said.

“She was frightened to death. She immediately called her brother and asked him to come and take her back home. She described her husband as a savage man who lacks romance at a time when she was seeking security and relaxation.”
