A well-known Bahraini TV female presenter died this week after serving more than 40 years in state-run TV channels. Two days later, her 27-year-old son was reported dead after suffering from diabetic complications.
Karima Zidani began her career in 1975 as a news reader on the government-controlled TV channel before moving to other satellite channels on the tiny Gulf island. Newspapers in Bahrain said she died on Sunday but did not mention how she died.
On Tuesday, her son Hisham was reported to have died after hearing about his mother’s demise. Relatives said Hisham suffered from a diabetic fit and was rushed to hospital in Manama before his death.
“After hearing about his mother’s death, he could not eat or drink anything…he died at hospital later,” his uncle Mohammed Zidani said, denying reports that Hisham committed a suicide.
