Sudan has decided to send more troops to join the Saudi-dominated Arab coalition forces fighting to end an Iranian-backed coup and restore the legitimate regime in Yemen, a Sudanese military spokesman has said.

Brigadier Ahmed Khaifa said the 300-strong Sudanese military unit which arrived in Yemen on Saturday was part of a force committed by Sudan for the coalition.

Quoted by Yemen’s Masdar Online news network, he said the Sudanese soldiers have deployed in Aden along with other allied troops.

He noted that Sudan has committed troops to fight in Yemen in line with a decision to support the operation to restore legitimacy in Yemen according to “Arab League decisions and charters which Sudan respects.”

“The battalion which arrived in Aden is part of ground forces committed by Sudan to join the Arab coalition in Yemen.

This battalion will be back up by more troops with the aim of supporting the coalition’s mission to restore legitimacy,” he said.
