Thief returns stolen money after 20 years

A Saudi thief feeling guilty for stealing SR200,000 (Dh200,000) from a local man nearly 20 years ago went to his house and gave him part of the stolen money, saying he would pay the rest later. But the shocked man asked him to keep the rest of the sum.

Quoted by 'Sabq' newspaper, the unnamed man said he was at his home in the capital Riyadh when an unknown man came to see him.

“He asked me how long I have lived in my house and I told him 25 years.

"He then asked me about the theft nearly 20 years ago,” he said.

“I replied that I still remember that a sum of SR200,000 paid as dowry for my daughter was stolen.

"I was shocked when he told me that he was the thief and that he came to return the money.

"He paid me SR50,000 and asked me to give him time to get the rest, but I told him I will take only the SR50,000 and that I forgive him.”
