Thousands of dead fish wash ashore in Saudi
Thousands of dead fish have washed ashore on a Saudi coast and port officials said the carnage was a result of a deliberate attack on the environment.
The fish washed ashore in tonnes at the coast near the eastern King Abdul Aziz port in Dammam, the second such a phenomenon in just five days.
“We have identified the reasons for this carnage and the parties involved in this act…we will open an investigation into this case and make sure those behind it will be punished,” the Arabic ‘Alyoum’ newspaper said, quoting Mohammed Al Qahtani, director of the marine control authority in the eastern province.
He did not elaborate but described the incident as “very dangerous” caused by persistent violations against the marine environment in a closed sea.
