Tortured child refuses to leave hospital for home

An eight-year-old Saudi girl who had been admitted to hospital after she was severely tortured by her parents is refusing to return home, fearing she would be subject again to beating, a newspaper said on Saturday.

The girl had been brought to hospital in the northwestern town of Hail with burns on the back and deep bruises in the head and eyes, Sabq said.

Her parents had lied to hospital that their daughter had an accident but the supervising doctor found out that she had been tortured at home.

“She feels better now but she is refusing to go back home to escape further family violence and torture,” the paper said, quoting doctors. It said the hospital has contacted the social affairs department in the city and to the Hail police to help tackle the problem.
