Watchman returns Dh55,000 jewellery found in garbage
An Egyptian watchman who found a box containing nearly Dh55,000 worth of jewelry in the waste bin returned the box to its owner and refused his reward, saying he wanted to be rewarded by God, a newspaper reported on Monday.
Mohammed, a watchman for a building in the capital Kuwait City, was dumping garbage collected from the apartments into the big waste bin when he noticed the box, the Arabic language daily Al Rai said.
When he opened the box, he found jewellery worth around KD4,000 (Dh55,000) and decided to return it to its owner, it said.
“He wrote on a piece of paper that he had found something valuable in the bin and hanged the paper on the building entrance,” it said.
“The watchman said in the paper that anyone who claims the box must give description of it before having it back.
“A Kuwaiti tenant gave the right description and offered a reward of 10 per cent of the jewelry’s value to the watchman but he refused, saying he only wanted to be rewarded by God.”
