Wife can check husband's mobile if suspicious: scholar

A wife is permitted to check her husband’s mobile phone behind his back if she suspects he is unfaithful to her, but such a practice will hurt confidence between them, according to a prominent Saudi Islamic scholar.

“It is ok for a wife to check her husband’s mobile behind his back if she thinks he is not faithful to her and she wants to get evidence,” said Sheikh Abdullah Al Manei, a member of the seven-man Supreme Scholars’ Committee in the Gulf Kingdom.

“But I believe that this practice will hurt mutual trust, which is the basis for a strong marital relationship. Spying on one another will damage this trust,” he said in comments on social media, in response to a question from readers.
