Will Saudi Arabia follow other Gulf countries and change its week end from Thursday-Friday to Friday-Saturday?
Officials said no decision has been issued yet, reacting to rumors on Facebook about an imminent move.
Saudi newspapers said reports were circulated on Facebook this week that the Gulf Kingdom would approve Saturday as a holiday instead of Thursday, adding that the reports cited unnamed official sources in the world’s dominant oil power.
“Unnamed officials, cited in some newspapers, reacted by saying no decision has yet been issued in this respect,” Almasdar daily said on Sunday.
But it quoted a judge at the ministry of justice as saying he saw no legal obstacle for shifting the weekend to Friday and Saturday.
“I don’t think there is any legal, religious or intellectual problem in this regard…but this is my personal opinion, which should not bind any one,” judge Issa Al Gaith said.
