Yemen needs to have a new political system after the end of the war away from the former regime of Ali Saleh to ensure security, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash was reported on Friday as saying.
In comments he posted on his Twitter page, Gargash also said the deposed Saleh actually confirmed Iran’s direct interference in Yemen when he sought to deny such involvement in his interview with the Iranian-funded Almayadeen satellite TV channel.
“Yemen needs a new political system after the end of the conflict away from such strained and nervous personalities (Saleh)…Yemen needs to have a new start to build its future, create new opportunities and guarantee security,” he said.
“Saleh’s choice of Almayadeen channel to make his statements and deny Iran’s role in the rebellion in Yemen is in itself a confirmation of this involvement…his statements were tense and were under the pressure of the rebellion’s failure….he was hallucinating and contradicting himself when he said the Saudis are brothers and the Saudi regime is hostile…he is a monster putting his personal interests before his country’s interests.”
Gargash described Saleh’s remarks on the Beirut-based Almayadeen TV as “classical and lacking of any responsibility,” adding that he seems to be seeking a way out.
“Saleh is trying to drive a wedge within the Arab coalition…this is a disgusting attempt…he tends to forget that the decision by the coalition to be involved in Yemen was a strategic one intended to protect that country and the entire Gulf region,” he said.
“Saleh appeared in the interview to be a contradicting and delirious man…he does not realize that no merit was left for him regionally and internationally and that his maneuvers and lies will not be taken by any sane person.”
