Restaurant staffer cooks up fake NOC

A restaurant suspected a staffer for forging a no-objection certificate (NOC) based on which obtained a driver’s licence, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On January 30, 2014, AA, Syrian clerk submitted his resignation which was accepted by his employer, a fish restaurant.

Later, he visited the administration to get his dues.

Chatting with him about what he is doing, sales executive TI, 30, Palestinian, who is also the son of the restaurant’s owner, was shocked to know that he found a job as PRO.

“A PRO job requires a driving licence and I knew that AA did not hold one when he was with us,” said the executive.

AA told the sales executive that he holds one and presented the licence to him.

“I asked him how he got it. He answered me that he knows someone in RTA who helped him in the matter. He also told me that he got it when he was still with us,” he said.

Since the executive knew that one of the papers needed for applying for a driver’s licence is to submit an NOC from the employer, he suspected something fishy because AA had not been issued such a letter.

The restaurant’s PRO was asked to check the matter with the RTA.

The PRO found out that AA submitted an NOC that carried the restaurant’s logo, signature of the employer and stamp of the restaurant.

However, it was clear to the PRO that the stamp was not the same one they use in the restaurant.

The restaurant confronted AA with the forgery and the latter made a written confession that was also signed by witnesses.

The restaurant reported the incident to the police on April 15, 2014 accusing AA of forgery.

The court will reconvene on March 9.
