Revealed: Why several Fujairah families have disabled kids

The dangers of inbreeding were discussed at a seminar organised by the Ministry of Social Affairs in Dibba, Fujairah, last week.

Studies reveal that many families in Fujairah have disabled children, which is a result of inbreeding.

Residents of mountainous areas and the eastern region often marry within their own families, which cause disabilities in their offsprings, confirmed studies that were highlighted at the seminar.

The two-day event was held in collaboration with Ministry of Health (Preventive Medicine), Department of Fatwa and Islamic Affairs in Dubai and the Organisation of the Arab family.

Secondary school students, their parents as well as several young couples attended the seminar.

Studies discussed at the event revealed that in Fujairah there were families with more than two specially-abled kids. Some families even had five such cases.

The representatives urged residents to dissuade from marrying off their daughters to men from the same family.
