RTA set to launch online licence renewal

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set for the launch of a new package of innovative services during Gitex 2010.

The CEO of RTA Corporate Technical Support Services Sector Abdullah Al Madani pointed to some of the key new electronic services on offer relating to licensing sector such as the online renewal of the driving licence, online renewal of vehicle registration, electronic scheduling of driving tests, online payment of fines, electronic eye testing, online allocation of distinguished numbers plates, and online open distinguished number plate auctions.

Al Madani stated that those services would be delivered through innovative channels such as the RTA website, trusted service agents from within the contracted insurance companies, and RTA Call Centre. He also revealed there was a future plan for cooperating with eyesight testing centres to facilitate the delivery of such services to customers.

He also stated that during Gitex this year RTA would launch a new service whereby RTA Service Centres, the Red Line of the Metro service and various routes of public transport modes would be posted on interactive Google Maps.

“This will enable a big chunk of users worldwide access to public transport network in Dubai such that the user will be able to obtain the transport information and routes on these maps. The user can also surf from one destination to another online, or inquire about a certain destination where the service will identify and display the optimal bus and train routes along with the available schedules in a smooth and handy manner,” he added.

About the other RTA services on offer during Gitex, Al Madani said: “There is also a new service enabling the customer to inquire and obtain reports about the use of various Nol Cards such as the Gold Card, Silver Card of P Card through the Nol portal.”

“During Gitex, RTA will also have greater interaction with the public through the daily draw of gifts such as I-Pads, I-Phones, the new navigation system (Dalili), complimentary journeys on board the Water Taxi, complimentary Nol Cards … etc.

“The public are invited to visit RTA Stand at Sheikh Rashid Hall B9-10 or at the Dubai e-Government Stand D9-10 in the same Hall, to get more acquainted with the key services and new technological applications offered by the RTA, or attend lectures delivered by expert technologists showcasing the best practices and projects implemented,” concluded Al Madani.
