Saudi busts petrol smuggling gang

Saudi police have busted a gang involved in smuggling petrol outside the Gulf Kingdom through an illegal small harbour on the western coast under the cover of night, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

Police raided the tree-covered bay south of the Red Sea port of Jeddah and arrested four Yemenis and two Indians while they were loading the petrol aboard a small vessel at night, Alriyadh Arabic language daily said.

“Police seized 34 containers laden with petrol and ready for export to markets outside Saudi Arabia,” the paper said without elaborating on the destination.
