School bags seized in Saudi over images

Saudi Arabia’s Islamic police seized school bags carrying cross images just a day before millions of pupils returned to class after a three-month summer break.

Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice seized the bags during raids on several shops in the Western town of Medina after they were reported by parents buying stationery for their children.

“All the bags with such images were confiscated and the owners of the shops were warned,” 'Sada' Arabic language daily said.

The report followed the confiscation of school notebooks carrying images of women on the beach.
