Sharjah and Abu Dhabi gear up for Eid holidays: Extra buses, free parking

Additional bus routes within the city and between the emirates have been deployed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Sharjah in preparation of the Eid holidays, which will last for 9 days.

A total of 2415 bus trips will be made every day, including 915 intra city bus trips and 1500 intercity trips, said Abdul Aziz Al Jarwan, Director of the Transportation Department.

With regards to the buses within the emirate, he commented that 75 additional buses will be deployed instead of the usual 58. The buses will run extra bus services especially during peak hours.

More than 300 buses will run between the emirates along 15 different routes to guarantee that the headway between buses will be no less than 5 minutes, said Al Jarwan.

Moreover, intercity buses will be operated one hour later to do the last round at midnight, while the Sharjah-Abu Dhabi route will run till 12.30.

Additional staff has been scheduled to attend the call center of the Sharjah Taxi to respond to the highest number of phone call request possible. All taxi services –family taxis,ladies-only taxis, taxis dedicated to the disabled, normal vehicles, and pre-booking services- will be available 24/7, he added.

Free parking in Abu Dhabi during Eid

Parking in the emirate of Abu Dhabi will be free during the Eid holidays, announced the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi (DoT).

Parking will be free of charge from Sunday July 27, from 00:01 am, until Saturday August 2, 2014, 07:59am.

Parking charges will apply on Saturday July 26 and Saturday August 2, the DoT emphasised.

Moreover, customer care centers will be closed during the Eid Holidays. The following Centers will be closed from July 27 until August 1, 2014: Muroor Road, Al Falah Street, Central Market and Electra Customer Care. The other centers; ADCCI, ADCP, Etisalat and Marina Mall Customer Care Centers, will all be closed from July 27 until August 2, 2014.
