This Dubai Police video, published on YouTube and carried by 'Al Bayan', shows Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, working hand-in-hand with civil defence and emergency teams to quell the fire at The Address hotel.
Trained for rescue success
Lt. Col. Ahmad Atiq Burqibah, Deputy Director of the Search and Rescue Department at the General Directorate of Transport and Rescue at Dubai Police said he was on annual leave the day fire broke at The Address hotel, Emarat Al Youm reports.
Burqibah attributed the success of the evacuation despite the challenge to the teams continuous training.
Last person rescued… fast asleep
Maj. Khalid Ibrahim Mohammed, Acting Director of the Search and Rescue Department at the General Directorate of Transport and Rescue at Dubai Police revealed that the last person who was evacuated from The Address hotel was a woman who was sleeping in her bedroom, overlooking the other side of the hotel.
In a report in Emarat Al Youm, he added that the woman was fast sleep and did not know about the fire despite the sirens.
He says she was surprised by the rescue team members waking her up and taking her out to safety. He praised the efforts of all departments who took part in the evacuation.
